WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR YOUTH
Our Youth Ministry is a community affair. We are especially eager to welcome and involve members of the community whose own youth have grown, or who do not have children in the youth group. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Maggie Doyle, Youth Minister,
via email or 415.456.1102, x105.

1. Host of meal
Are you looking for an opportunity to feed a room full of voracious teens? We are looking for volunteers to help provide dinners for Sunday evening Youth Group. If you would like to do this, even for only one Sunday.

2. Be a mentor
Young people need adults in their lives who are not their parents! By the same token, adult lives are enriched when they include relationships to young people.

YOUTH MINISTRY
Ministry to youth is central to our calling as a parish and happens throughout the life of the church. Our Sunday morning Youth Group (6th-12th grade)
meets year- round at 10 am in the Youth Room. After the 10 am service, the youth work our espresso bar for coffee hour. From September to June, our Evening Youth Group (both middle and high school) meets every Sunday for games, chats, crafts, service projects, dinner, and more. Youth are also invited to participate in all areas of the life of the church – to serve as acolytes, lectors, song leaders, choir members; to serve and lead on our outreach projects. For further information about our youth program and other activities, please contact Maggie Doyle, Youth Minister via email or phone, 415.456.1102, x105.

CONFIRMATION CLASS
We run a year-long Confirmation class for 7th -12th graders. It is through this Confirmation process that we are able to celebrate the unique voices and perspectives of our youth as they grow as leaders within our greater church community. Culminating in a confirmation ceremony at Grace Cathedral in June, the Confirm Not Conform program takes us through a wide range of discussions, creative activities, community outreach, and mentorship opportunities, encouraging open dialogue and a myriad of perspectives.

Confirmation classes are held roughly twice a month in the St. John’s Youth Room, at noon.

SUNDAY MORNING YOUTH GROUP
Every Sunday morning at 10 am, youth in grades 6-12 engage in a variety of discussions led by our Youth Minister with the help of a volunteer mentor.  During the school year we follow a lectionary-based curriculum that weaves in art, music, and multi-media to address a wide range of topics. Join us in the Youth Room.

COFFEE HOUR ON SUNDAYS
Our Youth Group runs a full-service espresso bar in the Parish Hall at Coffee Hour after the Sunday 10 am service.  If you are new, please come by for a free latte/tea drink of your choice.  All proceeds from our sales go to the youth pilgrimage/service trip fund. We also sell coffee in 1 lb. bags of regular and decaf in ground or whole bean.

EVENING YOUTH GROUP
Both Middle School and High School Youth Groups meet together from 4:30-6:00 pm in the Youth Room from September through June. Join us for games, chatting, crafts, service projects, and more! Dinner is provided from 5:30-6:00 pm.

ANNUAL YOUTH TRIP
Each Summer the youth of St. John’s take a trip dedicated to learning, service, and experiencing God in a new context. The week-long trip is filled with experiences that call on the group to grow, learn and serve.

A NOTE FROM OUR YOUTH MINISTER

Thank you so much for checking out the St. John’s Youth Group page!

We aim to provide the most supportive, creative, and accepting community as a sacred space for youth – growing and thriving together. Through a range of programs – such as Sunday morning gatherings, deep dives into anything and everything within teen life, weekly worship, outreach across the Bay Area, coffee-cart service showing off our killer barista skills, confirmation classes, and shared evening meals, activities, and chilled time – we hope to foster a home-away-from-home for tweens and teens within the larger St. John’s community.

We’d love to have you join us for upcoming program-year events!

– Maggie Doyle
