The Rev. Joanna Benskin is excited to continue serving at St. John’s and grateful to learn as part of such a wise and supportive team of leaders. She is a transitional deacon in her final semester of seminary studies at Church Divinity School of the Pacific and has a particular call to adult spiritual education. This summer (Lord willing and the people consenting!), Joanna will return home to the Diocese of Indianapolis to be ordained as a priest and work in parish ministry.
Joanna currently lives in Berkeley with her husband Brian and two cats. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English and a PhD in Comparative Literature (Purdue, 2017). She taught composition and world literature during her graduate studies, and she coordinated volunteers at a public library in Indiana before coming to California. She enjoys hiking, Dungeons & Dragons, and baking bread.
We pray, worship and celebrate the Gospel responding to the needs of our communities while building relationships to support us on our journey of faith.
St. John’s will be a spiritual home that welcomes all, loves and respects all, and serves all in Christ’s name.
