Sometimes what happens in church on a Sunday morning can feel like it bears no relation to the "real world" outside. Partly this is on purpose — in worship we are called to imagine a world that doesn’t really exist: a world of justice and mercy, of abundance and forgiveness. But the purpose of this imagining is not mere self-indulgence. Once church is over, we’re supposed to carry this vision out into the world, so that it may be "on earth as it is in heaven." Sometimes the transition can be a bit jarring.
"Real Life" is the term we use to broadly describe all the things we do that are not worship, but which extend the work of the church into the world: One the one hand, the nourishment and enlightenment of our own souls and minds. And on the other hand, putting our hands and bodies to work for the comfort and care of those who suffer.
