Sunday SchoolJesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14 Sunday School is offered during the 10 a.m. service. Children and youth participate in their own programs and then join their parents in the sanctuary for Communion, and to sing hymns at the close of the service. PreK-4th grade: Godly PlayThis age group uses the Godly Play program. Every Sunday there are three Godly Play classes: — Pre-K and Kindergarten Godly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum built on the premise that children want to know God rather than know about God. In the careful telling of stories, and sharing of wondering questions, adults help children develop a language to express what they already know about God. (And in the process, adults learn something, too.) Grades 5-6: PyromaniacsThis Sunday school class and associated activities welcomes all 5th and 6th graders. It is designed to complement the students’ transition from primary to middle school and into the youth opportunities at St John’s. Heavy on the conversation, the group's Sunday morning time is spent discussing the scripture readings for that day. Students and their adult mentors find ways to draw connections between what we read and hear about in the Bible, and what we experience, celebrate, and struggle with in our lives. Additionally, whenever possible, things get lit on fire.
