Jim Bisbing

Music Director

Jim directs the adult choir, plays the organ for services and oversees all of the Church's musical programs. In addition, he supervises the care of the musical instruments, often including his hands-on tuning and maintenance of the organ.

He has a special interest in the vocal, musical, and community-building opportunities for choral singers and finds great personal satisfaction in this area.

Previous employment includes long-term positions with Central Methodist Church, Detroit; First Congregational Church, San Francisco; and First Presbyterian Church, Palo Alto. He worked for two pipe organ builders and served as consultant for numerous new and rebuilt instruments. In addition, he maintained a private voice studio, teaching hundreds of singers over a period of 40 years. He received his primary training at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.

Jim's hobbies include woodworking, home remodeling, and walking the hills and neighborhoods of San Francisco. He lives in downtown San Francisco with his partner of 25 years, Alan Quan.
